Dumpsters & The Environment

Based on all we hear about landfills and waste, you would think that using roll off dumpsters is a net negative to the environment. Think again.

While it’s entirely true that if the waste in landfills didn’t exist, the world would be a cleaner place. That doesn’t mean that ordering a large dumpster hurts the environment more. In fact, renting a roll off dumpster is better for the environment.

Before diving into the supporting meat, let’s first answer a few questions!

The Questions

Why try to Protect the Environment?

Some may think it is a no brainer to protect the environment. However, it’s not necessarily a topic everyone agrees on. It’s not that some people love the environment while other hate it. It’s the question of where our priorities should lie.

So, it’s a fair one to ask. Southeast Tennessee and North Georgia are known for their natural beauty. It’s hard to get around it — the mountains, the water. The Ocoee was featured in the Olympics. “See Rock City” is posted all over Chattanooga. Not to mention, the air quality is superb.

Most people who live in our service area care about preserving the natural beauty of where we call home. The question is can we do it while not sacrificing everything else?

In this post, we’re only going to answer a sliver of that question. When considering a roll off Dumpster, the answer is YES!

Are Dumpsters good for the Environment?

No, dumpsters aren’t good for the environment. No waste is actually good for the environment. However, there are things that are worse and better. Putting all your garbage in a landfill is bad and dumpster companies have experience and are incentivized to find alternative ways to dispose of the materials.

Ultimately, dumpsters aren’t actually what is bad for the environment since they are items that are regular reused. There is no waste at all.

The Meat

How are we going to make the argument that roll of dumpsters are better for the environment? While there may be more, we will stick to two ways!

Gas

That’s right. The first reason is something everyone is talking about, and it may be the least obvious. You use way less gas hauling things to the dump. When the roll of dumpster company comes, it’s two trips…

  1. Drop off
  2. Pick Up

When you are hauling the garbage yourself, it’s probably going to take you multiple trips, especially if you don’t have a large enclosed trailer or don’t wan't to put a bunch of garbage in that enclosed trailer — or worse, your back seat.

Dumpster roll off companies like DAILY DUMPSTER have powerful vehicles capable of towing large amounts of weight, which means that not only is the garbage all going away from your house in one trip, but the vehicle won’t have to work as hard to tow it.

If you’re pulling a large load up and down the hills in East Tennessee or North Georgia, your car is probably working exceptionally hard. Likely because most personal vehicles are just not made to do that kind of work!

What happens when your car has to work extra hard? It uses way more gas. That’s both more emissions polluting the air and more money out of your pocket. Not to mention that it’s not exactly great for the longevity of your vehicle.

Whether you care more about the emissions, the well-being of your car, or your wallet, remember that it’s better to use Daily Dumpster instead of lugging multiple loads to the dump.

Waste

Waste is a versatile word. Sometimes waste can mean things you don’t use and get rid of but in this case, it means irresponsible use of resources. A lot of us remember learning about recycling as kids. In school, they make it sound like fun! BUT, in reality it’s not only tedious, it’s another trip to another place. Possible, multiple times.

Not all recycling plants are made equal. Some will take all of the recyclable materials as is and others will require you to separate the different kinds of plastics before arriving.

Not only will you need to take the time to take extra trips to the recycling center, but you will need to take the extra time beforehand to split up all the materials. What a hassle.

As we talked about in the gas section, multiple trips are rough. Rough on you, your car, your wallet, and the environment. If you want to recycle materials on your own, you may have to take multiple tips to the recycling center in addition to to the dump.

Long story short, you can waste a lot of resources trying to be responsible.

Luckily there is an alternative. Many roll of dumpster companies will — in addition to hauling everything off — have the recyclable materials separated to be processed.

You may ask: do roll off dumpster companies really care that much about the environment. The honest answer is that most of them probably don’t, but they do like the extra income. You may then ask: do you really get that much money from recycling. And, the honest answer is that as a normal consumer, you will not. HOWEVER, when you have the volume of a roll of dumpster company, those drop offs add up!

Joint Care

Do you like seeing Rock City? Do you like the beautiful view of the mountains? The clean air of east Tennessee?

We all do. Besides not having a state income tax, it’s probably the main reason we live here. The natural beauty of east Tennessee and north Georgia is incontestable. Daily Dumpster is local, so we have a vested interest in doing our part to preserve the natural beauty of the place we call home!

We live and operate here because we love the place and the people, and we don’t want to either go anywhere any time soon!

The End

All that is to say that when you see a large dumpster in front of someone’s house or on a construction site, consider that what you’re seeing isn’t really waste. It’s another way that a company is helping mitigate environmental impact.

A large dumpster doesn’t mean more garbage, it means less trips. One big dumpster doesn’t mean everything goes to the landfill, it just means one haul before being split.

Not only is there a financial incentive for dumpster companies to care for the environment, but because we’re local, Daily Dumpster reaps the same rewards and setbacks that you do. Because we call the same place home, we want to keep our home looking as beautiful as ever.

So, when you’re looking for a roll of dumpster, don’t just go with anyone. Go with Daily Dumpster.
